No. 6 Cincinnati Overwhelms A Short Handed SMU Team

DALLAS – A very shorthanded SMU basketball team hosted No. 6 Cincinnati this afternoon in Moody Coliseum. The Mustangs (15-10) were without three of their usual starters in Shake Milton, Ethan Chargois, and Jarrey Foster all due to injuries. Although SMU had only 6 scholarship players suited up in today’s matchup, the Mustangs started the game out strong with a 5-0 lead.

The Bearcats took control of the game and never trailed again, eventually winning 76-51. Jimmy Whitt and Jahmal McMurray each finished with 19 points, but that wasn’t enough to beat the balanced scoring of Cincinnati. The Bearcats had 3 players in double figures and another right behind with 9 points.

The Mustangs struggled to shoot the ball, finishing the game at 32% compared to Cincinnati’s 44% from the field. With UC’s win today in Moody Coliseum (which has only happened 1 other time in over 2 years) the Bearcats are now on a 16 game winning streak. SMU on the other hand has now lost the last 4 out of 5 games. The Mustangs hope to get things back on track Wednesday night when Memphis comes to town.
