FRISCO, TEXAS — The Dallas Cowboys’ animated receiver throwing up the “X” has just been released. 29- year-old wide receiver, Dez Bryant, met with owner Jerry Jones this morning to discuss his contract terms and future with the Cowboys.
Bryant was set to make $12.5 million with a $16.5 million cap hit. He was one of eight elite receivers in the NFL to be set to receive more than $12 million dollars. However, Bryant’s performance the last few years has not reflected the amount of payment he was receiving as a star receiver in the National Football League.
Since 2014, Bryant has had less than 1,000 receiving yards a season: 401 yards in 2015, 796 in 2016, and 838 in 2017. There has been controversy over the role of Bryant with the Cowboys’ offense throughout the 2017 season and off-season. He had trouble connecting with quarterback Dak Prescott during the 2017 season. The chemistry between Dak and Dez in the 13-3 season in 2016 had most Cowboys fans believing in the dawn of a new era of triplets with Dak, Dez, and Zeke, seemed to diminish this past season with no appearance in the playoffs.
Bryant has been with the silver and blue since 2010, wearing the iconic number 88, also worn by legends Michael Irvin and Drew Pearson. He has been apart of many memorable moments and unforgettable games in the last 8 years for the Cowboys and his presence will not be forgotten. Best of luck to Dez Bryant, thank you for the memories, and in your honor, we throw up the “X!”
