FRISCO, TEXAS – The 2018 NFL Draft concludes with rounds 4-7 on Day 3 at AT&T Stadium. The Dallas Cowboys had seven selections today, as rounds 4-6 included compensatory picks. Here are the selections for the Dallas Cowboys:
Round 4:
116th overall pick – Dorance Armstrong DE, Kansas
Armstrong has speed and long arms to bend around the edge. He is a lightweight 6’4 “ 257 lb. defensive end. Going into college, Armstrong was ranked the #50 DE in the country per ESPN. He had a breakout season as a sophomore at Kansas, earning first-team All-Big 12 honors accumulating 10 sacks, 56 tackles, 20 for loss, and three forced fumbles. He was the first player in history for Kansas to be named the Big 12 Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. In 2017 he earned second team-all -conference honors.
137th overall pick (compensatory) – Dalton Schultz TE, Stanford
Great in-line-blocker. At 6’6”, 244 lbs. Schultz is similar in size to that of Cowboys’ veteran TE Jason Witten. Smooth attack in the middle and makes an impact in pass rush. In 2016, he was an honorable mention All-Pac-12 pick, with 23 receptions for 222 yards and one touchdown.
Round 5:
171st overall pick (compensatory) – Mike White QB, Western Kentucky
Strong arm; White was a former high school pitcher with a 90 mph fastball. White has good size at 6’5” 224 lbs. Throws good, easily catchable, deep balls to receivers down the field. White took the reigns as starting quarterback in 2016 for Western Kentucky and he was named second-team-All-conference USA and C-USA Newcomer of the Year after completing 67 percent of his passes.
Rams traded WR Tavon Austin to the Cowboys for a sixth-round pick. The Dallas Cowboys gave their 192nd overall pick to the Rams in exchange for receiver Tavon Austin. The Cowboys also gave punt returner, Ryan Switzer, to the Raiders for defensive tackle Jihad Ward.
Round 6:
193rd overall pick – Chris Covington OLB, Indiana
He is a former quarterback in high school who switched to the linebacker position in college, with an eye for the field and the instincts of the offense. Covington has great speed and tackles with force against ball carriers. In 2017, he received honorable mention All-Big Ten Honors for accumulating 85 tackles, 12 for loss, three sacks, and five pass breakups. He was named Indiana’s Defensive Player of the Year for his impact on the field in their offensive line.
208th overall pick (compensatory) – Cedrick Wilson WR, Boise State
Great height for a receiver at 6’2” and size at 197 lbs. Smooth route runner and can easily change direction. Winning attitude and competitive nature when he gets the ball. His father, Cedrick Wilson Sr., played in the league for seven years and won a Super Bowl with the Steelers. Football runs in his family. As a junior, Wilson Jr. earned honorable mention All-Mountain West honors for a receiver with 56 receptions, 1,129 yards, and led the team with 11 touchdowns. In his senior season, he earned first-team All-Conference by leading Boise State with 83 receptions and 1,511 yards, and seven touchdowns.
Round 7:
236th overall pick – Bo Scarbrough RB, Alabama
Scarbrough has great speed behind his runs that allow him to take hits and keep his runs alive. He has an eye for making reads and assessing the opposing team’s defense. He has great energy and agility late in games that tires defenses. He only started twice in his sophomore year but still managed to accumulate 812 yards and 11 touchdowns. He won the team’s offensive MVP award against Washington in a College Football Playoff Semifinal game where he had a breakout performance with 180 yards and two touchdowns. A leg injury kept him from raking in more numbers for the Tide.
