Cowboys Sign G Dustin Stanton

FRISCO, TEXAS – After the conclusion of the 2018 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys signed former Bengals offensive guard Dustin Stanton on Monday.

Stanton signed with the Bengals as a free agent out of Oregon State in 2017, and they released him out of preseason. At 6’6”, 298 lbs. Stanton is a versatile player who transitioned from tight end to an offensive guard during his college career.

The Dallas Cowboys are looking for added depth in their o-line as they drafted Connor Williams in the 2nd round with the 50th pick overall, an OL from Texas. The Cowboys also signed former 49ers guard Marcus Martin. The Cowboys are filling in gaps and creating competition to bring out the best in their players, as they will eventually move the roster down to 53 men.

Executive Vice President and CEO, Stephen Jones, commented in a press conference following the Draft, “ our draft picks all have the chance to step in. You never know what will happen injury wise. “ Head Coach Jason Garrett has routinely commented, “Competition brings out the best in our players and creates the best opportunity for us to succeed.”

That was exactly their strategy going into the 2018 NFL Draft. During the off-season, these men will have a chance to prove their ability and fight for a starting spot on “America’s Team’s “ final roster. These offensive linemen will bridge the holes and create a dominant force in the Cowboys’ offensive line to protect Dak and the receivers from pass rushers, and to eliminate a repeat of the Falcons game in 2017 where QB Dak Prescott was sacked a total of 7 times, 6 from Adrian Clayborn.
