Wings Win Home Opener Against Dream

ARLINGTON, Texas — The Wings soared to a victory over the Atlanta Dream in their home opener, 101-78, helped by five players scoring in double figures and led by Skylar Diggins-Smith’s game-high 25 points. The Dream jumped out to a quick lead before a Diggins-Smith four-point play brought the Wings within one. But Atlanta used an 8-0 run to extend their lead to nine, 15-6, midway through the opening quarter. The Wings fought back and used a 7-0 run of their own to tie the score at 22 after one quarter.

Liz Cambage scored 10 points in the quarter, the most she has scored in a single quarter this season. The Wings dominated the second quarter, outscoring the Dream 37-15 to take a 59-37 lead into the locker room. The 37 second-quarter points sets a franchise record for most points in a quarter. Cambage led the way for the Wings in the first half, scoring 17 points on 7-for-8 from the field.

Diggins-Smith added 13 first-half points. At the beginning of the third quarter the Wings pushed their lead to 24 before the teams traded baskets back-and-forth. Diggins-Smith poured in 10 third-quarter points, as the Wings took an 80-58 lead into the final period.
