Cowboys’ Veteran/Rookie OTA’s Kicks Off

FRISCO, Texas – Veterans and Rookies wearing the famous Star join forces at OTA’s this week training for the season.

Quarterback Dak Prescott commented that he is focusing on the fundamentals of “footwork in the pocket” during OTA’s and trying to get better with floor work. He described that the “offensive line will know where I am at. Big improvements that will help our whole protection pass game and me moving in the pocket.” The Cowboys are trying to create the Dak-Friendly environment for the receivers and getting the o-line in accord with Dak’s movements and intuition after the snap to protect the run/pass.

Running back Ezekiel Elliott summarized his goal for OTA’s “ I am really focusing on leading by example and encouraging these guys and bringing them along with me. I feel we all need to do that. Working on being more vocal. “ After the 6-game suspension and weight of the court hearings looming over his head last season, Zeke has a fresh start with no distractions heading into 2018. He wants to put the past behind him and help his teammates grow, as well as refine himself and his abilities, to be successful on the field. He concluded with “ I have high expectations for myself this year. “ With the new young talent the Cowboys have acquired and their star running back present with a clear mind, the possibilities are endless.

Tavon Austin addressed the issue of his title of running back or wide receiver “ I don’t care what they describe me as or where I am at on the field, I just want the ball and an open space. “ Dak mentioned today what coach Garrett has mentioned several times before, that their goal for Austin is to “get the ball in his hands” and watch him work. It look as if Austin will have his wish and the opportunity to put points on the board for “America’s Team “ come fall.

First round draft pick, Leighton Vander Esch described his vision for OTA’s “I am just trying to come in everyday and do the best I can to help everybody be better. At this point I have a lot to learn. I am not even close to where I need to be yet but it is an everyday process and I am going to enjoy every bit of it. I couldn’t have it better.”

He is now a linebacker for his dream team and will put in the work to earn his star and make his way onto the field in 2018. Vander Esch smiled as he discussed his interaction with veteran teammate Sean Lee and Jaylon Smith“ He has taught me a handful already. It’s miraculous what that guy knows and the knowledge that he has in football. And even Jaylon, those two guys have really taken me under their wing and helped me along.” He is learning from the best and has the potential and determination to leave his own legacy. As OTA’s begin, the competition continues!!!
