FRISCO, Texas – The Dallas Cowboys have finally locked down offensive guard Zack Martin with a six-year contract extension. The contract negotiations took longer than what the coaching staff considered ideal, but they will have their four-time Pro Bowl player back on the field in the offensive line along with his teammates tomorrow for Mandatory Mini-Camp.
With his new contract, Martin will become the highest paid guard in NFL history per Ian Rapoport who tweeted “ The Cowboys are giving star G Zack Martin a 6-year contract extension that makes him the highest-paid guard with the largest guarantee at his position in NFL history.”
There is no guard more deserving than Martin. In the four seasons he has worn No. 70 for the ‘silver and blue,’ he has been selected to the Pro-Bowl in each one. He has not missed a regular season game since his first season with the Cowboys in 2014. Martin was awarded the 2014 NFL All-Rookie Award and a spot in the NFL’s top 100 list at No. 58 in 2017. Also in 2017, Pro Football Focus (PFF) gave Martin an overall grade of 92.2, making him the No.2 overall guard in football in the elite category for his star performance on the field every week. In 67 game starts, he has allowed only seven sacks on the quarterback.
Martin has been a dominating force in the Cowboys’ o-line since he stepped on the field as a Cowboy in 2014, and the Cowboys had no choice but to offer this illustrious player the large contract he has earned by his efforts on the gridiron. The right side of the Cowboys offensive line is not complete without Zack Martin!
