FRISCO, Texas – Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle, David Irving, took part in Mandatory Mini-Camp after missing OTA’s due to off-field issues. Irving missed four games last season due to performance-enhancing drugs and domestic violence allegations came out against Irving by his girlfriend in April, but no charges were filed.
Irving has had his share of problems in the past and will have to mature to fully capitalize on the talent he has as a player. Over his 35 game starts over three seasons, Irving has accumulated 52 combined tackles, 33 total, 11.5 sacks, and 12 pass deflections. In 2017, he had his best performance season with 22 combined tackles and 7 sacks. When his ability is fully applied on the field, there is no stopping this gifted tackle. He has to stay out of trouble and fully exert himself by contributing to his team.
Defensive coordinator, Rod Marinelli, spoke at practice on Irving’s talent” he is a big dinosaur roaming around here…they have him running. It is just a process of getting him back in good shape and getting ready to go. It is great to see him. He is a heck of a player. He is a terrific pass rusher and you better account for him. You have to. You get 2 or 3 guys, maybe 4, that all have to win their singles and he is another guy inside that can make things go for it. “
If Irving stays out of trouble and remains healthy, there are no limits to what No.95 can do for the Cowboys on the inside of the defensive line. He has an innate skill set and powerful instincts that allow him to successfully maneuver a blitz, when he is present at the line of scrimmage.
