DALLAS, Texas — It’s not every day that a kid—an under resourced one at that—gets the opportunity to learn basketball skills by professional athletes so up close and personal. The Dallas Wings and the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Dallas made that opportunity possible for over 100 kids by holding a youth basketball clinic presented by Cigna.
Cigna is a global health service company dedicated to helping people improve their health, well-being, and sense of security.
The entire Wings roster was present along with Cigna executives to share a special moment of when the community gets together to make lasting memories.
For one full hour, clinic attendees were able to learn and build on the fundamentals of basketball – dribbling, passing, defense, and rebounding. There was even enough time for a dance battle that Head Coach Fred Williams started.
Following the skills and drills (and random dance battle), every single Dallas Wings player sat down to sign autographs for all the kids in attendance.
“When I see these kids, I think about when I was a kid and how I felt when college players would step out and come to the community…and just being able to see someone tall and knows the game of basketball…it’s just so much fun.” said Wings forward Theresa Plaisance.
As a part of the camp, the players also shared healthy eating habits and how to stay physically fit. Following the autograph signing, each kid was gifted with a bag of books for a summer reading program.
With the Dallas Wings in partnership with Cigna, they are committed to community outreach and youth development on and off the court.
