FRISCO, Texas — The Frisco RoughRiders were fresh off a walk off 4-2 win against San Antonio on Friday night. The long ball started the game for Frisco and then Josh Morgan ended the night with a blast to lead the Riders to victory. Saturday night was the finale of the series before traveling to Midland on Fathers Day.
The pitching lead the way last night with a strong outing from Tyler Davis and that was the storyline again tonight for Frisco. Tyler Wagner got the start for the Riders and had some control issues early but was able to give them 7 innings, allowing just one run and striking out 6. Anthony Gose pitched a scoreless eighth and Reid Garrett made it interesting in the ninth but shut the door to seal the 3-1 win over San Antonio.
Wagner was cruising for much of the night, rarely getting into any jams and had some great help from his defense, particularly Eliezer Alvarez in left. Despite leaving 18 runners on base tonight, Frisco broke through for 3 runs in the fourth and that would be all Wagner needed.
Destin Hood and Alvarez delivered doubles in the fourth inning to drive in 2 runs and Michael O’Neill struggled but got an RBI ground out in the inning. Frisco pitching did the rest. The RoughRiders arms combined for 10 K’s while squandering only 3 hits to a very good offensive Missions team. San Antonio shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. provided the lone spark, playing solid defense all night and stealing two bases in the sixth to manufacture the lone Missions run.
With the win, Frisco improves to 23-45 and will travel to face the Rockhounds in Midland tomorrow afternoon. San Antonio drops to to 42-26 and will host the Hooks tomorrow at 4:05.
