Football is Back! Cowboys Arrive in Oxnard

OXNARD, CA – The Cowboys team charter landed at Naval Air Station Point Mugu Tuesday, around 15 miles from the club’s training headquarters in Oxnard. Six buses carried the players, coaches, and staff to their destination. The Cowboys will hold the first news conference today, then will host their first non-padded practice at 4 p.m. Pacific on Thursday July 26. The first practice including pads will be on July 28, along with the official opening ceremony to kick off Training Camp will be at 3 p.m. Pacific. Football is back and the fight for a final position on “America’s Team” 53-man roster has begun!

Two familiar faces did not step off the bus to grab their bags and head to their rooms: Jason Witten and Dez Bryant. There are vacant leadership roles in the Cowboys’ offense waiting to be replaced with the right kind of players. The tight end and receiver position will be looked at closely during camp. During off-season, the Cowboys acquired Deonte Thompson, Allen Hurns, and Michael Gallup who complement Dak’s quarterback style and they let go of Bryant, who was not connecting with Dak on the field during key plays. These three will help the passing game, along with web-back Tavon Austin, who will be used as a punt/kick returner in the backfield and a receiver in the slot. With Witten’s retirement, the Cowboys acquired Dalton Schultz in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft, to add depth at the tight end position along with Rico Gathers, Geoff Swaim, and Blake Jarwin. Let the competition commence!
