OXNARD, Calif. – Coming off a 9-7 season in 2017, there is a lot of pressure on quarterback Dak Prescott to figure out his mechanical issues in the pocket and release the ball quicker. He did not have chemistry with his receivers and the passing game suffered, but the Cowboys acquired several x style receivers through the draft and free agency to create a Dak-Friendly environment in the offensive scheme.
During a press conference after practice in Oxnard, Prescott described what he wants to gain most from the 2018 season: camaraderie with his teammates. He remarked to the press “ I want to get to know these guys as men and brothers and not just a jersey number.”
He spent time with receivers Michael Gallup, Allen Hurns, Lance Lenoir, and Deonte Thompson in Orlando at Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports, prior to the start of Training Camp to get in extra practice and bonding time. The time spent outside of practice and the moments spent developing relationships with teammates is what will translate on Sundays on the gridiron and take the Cowboys to the next level. It is a team sport, but many times, it seems as if players fin the NFL forget that and work to gain their individual fame and stack up stats.
Prescott’s sole focus is finding new ways to lead his team this season and continue to gain the respect of and rapport with his teammates. Garrett has consistently talked about the importance of time spent with teammates outside of practice and the time he spent with Troy Aikman in the 90s and the invaluable experience and effect it had on the field. He remarked in a press conference that Prescott “learns from his experiences” and has “embraced the mantel.” This is his team and he wants to do whatever it takes to take his dream team to a championship. He handled himself with ease his rookie season earning AP’s offensive rookie of the year by not thinking and just playing the game he loves, hopefully this year we will see that again in “America’s Team QB! “
