OXNARD, Calif. – In the hunt for impact players in the ground game to take some of the pressure off Ezekiel Elliott, Bo Scarbrough is continuing to impress the coaching staff in Oxnard. Today at the press conference, head coach Jason Garrett remarked on Scarbrough’s progress “ we like Bo. That guy sticks out. He was great at Alabama and we wanted him to come in here and compete for a running back spot. He works very hard and will get opportunities in pre-season.”
Garrett discussed how Scarbrough’s former coach Nick Saban spoke very highly of him and had a strong influence on his decision to draft him as their last pick in the seventh round. Scarbrough was a power rusher at Alabama amassing 1512 rushing yards, an average of 5.7 yards per carry, and 20 touchdowns. He was the Tide’s Offensive MVP in a College Football Playoffs semifinal against Washington and the Cowboys have seen the same caliber of talent at training camp.
Scarbrough has had several reps in the offensive scheme and has had great speed behind the ball, and had great instincts and footwork in the Cowboys’ infamous “trashcan drills” to test each back’s ability to find holes in the defensive line. Definitely keep your eyes on No.36 in pre-season, if they are quick enough to catch him!
