OXNARD, Calif. – The Dallas Cowboys’ first pre-season game is days away vs. the San Francisco 49ers at Levi Stadium. Practice has been elevated with the goal line period and the “Blue White Scrimmage,” that included the red zone period and the two-minute drill. The coaching staff is looking for the impact players to include in the final 53-man roster.
Today at the press conference head coach Jason Garrett expressed that he has seen the “light come on” for the 2018 draft class. He focused on several individual players: LB Leighton Vander Esch, LG Connor Williams, WR Michael Gallup, DE Dorance Armstrong, TE Dalton Schultz, and QB Mike White.
Garrett remarked “ Leighton did great yesterday (Blue White Scrimmage). He plays sideline to sideline…Williams has been playing with the 1’s right from the start. You see him growing right before your eyes. He learns from his experiences and you see the same thing in Gallup. Armstrong has done a really nice job of rushing the passer…a lot of it is the kind of man he is. He loves to play football. He responds to adversity and has been watching the veterans on the defensive line. Dalton Shultz has done a great job. He plays a difficult position at TE: intricate part of the running and passing game. Mike White has gotten better. “
These guys have put in hard work and have earned their draft selection with “America’s Team.” Each of these players has the determination to give there all on the field to make a difference for their team in the final score. Pre-season will be an interesting test to see who performs well and fits in with the Cowboys’ offensive and defensive schemes. This is crunch time!
