FRISCO, Texas – Today is the final day hours before the final 53-man roster is announced for the 2018 season. The Dallas Cowboys have some hard decisions to make, specifically in the competition in the defensive line.
The Cowboys acquired latecomer defensive tackle Caraun Reid from free agency on Aug. 20. He has been with several teams in the league including the Lions, Chargers, Redskins, and Colts before landing with Dallas. Reid had an impressive performance in the fourth preseason game against the Texans amassing four tackles and two assists. He had one tackle in the Cardinals preseason game a few days prior.
His impact in the game is one of the few that Jason Garrett touched on in the press conference following the game “ Caraun Reid showed up and there is some competition in the defensive line for those final spots. He seemed to be around the quarterback and made some plays in the running game. For the most part it is better to watch the film. We will evaluate tape and make some hard decisions. “
Reid was definitely noticed by the coaching staff by his instincts at the line of scrimmage and ability to put pressure on the quarterback in Thursday’s game. He made the decision for the final spots in the Cowboys’ D-Line that much harder. Reid came to the show later than most with the Cowboys, but there is no question to his ability when the lights are on in a game setting. There is a possibility he will make it on the final roster along with Dorance Armstrong Jr. Armstrong has had an impressive camp and preseason performance. He had four tackles and a sack against the Texans and has continued to impress coaches during one-on-one pass protection drills. He has great penetration in the D-Line and has worked extremely hard throughout the off-season. The Cowboys have already announced the release of DE Kony Ealy, which frees up a place and makes the roster one step closer to being finalized.
