FRISCO, Texas – The Dallas Cowboys are still finalizing details since the 53-man roster was announced on Saturday. The Cowboys have placed wide receiver Noah Brown on injured reserve and have signed wide receiver Deonte Thompson in his place. Dallas also signed the addition of running back Bo Scarbrough to the practice squad.
During the press conference Jason Garrett touched on the changes to receiver and running back “ Area we are short on the 53 relative to what we have done in the past is running back. We have two halfbacks and a fullback. At the active roster we feel good about what Jamize can do for us as a protector on third down and what he might be able to do for us running the football. His versatility is a big factor. We have two running backs on the active roster and two on the practice squad: Jordan Chunn and Bo Scarbrough. That will be good to have those young developmental guys. On the 53 we are shorter there. “
In addition to Ezekiel Elliott and Rod Smith on the active roster impacting the ground game, the Cowboys have Chunn and Scarbrough on the practice squad to grow as players and add depth in the event that an injury occurs.
“ Noah just hasn’t done anything for us yet. A lot of decisions you make but at the end you are just trying to understand the system and best take advantage of it. On the 53 originally, he was subject to waiver claims and then we put him on IR. Deonte is not subject to waiver claims. We talked to Deonte before that and knew we wanted to bring him back. Given where Noah is with the hamstring we felt it was the right thing to put him on IR. “
Thompson will be another receiver the Cowboys can fall back on. Thompson has started in 53 games in his pro career amassing 77 catches for 1,032 yards and four touchdowns. The Cowboys have seen enough promise from Thompson in the slot to keep him around on the 53-man roster. He will have another chance this season with “America’s Team.”
