ARLINGTON, Texas – Last night’s win against the New York Giants set several new records for the Dallas Cowboys. The game marked the Cowboys’ 40th win at AT&T Stadium in the regular season and post, and was the team’s third straight win against New York, the longest streak against the Giants since a five-game streak from 2013-2015.
The Cowboys’ defense amassed 6.0 sacks in the game on Eli Manning; the first time the unit has ranked six-or-more sacks since the game against Arizona last season. Each sack was by a different defender on Dallas’ roster, the last time six different defenders recorded at least one sack in a game was in 1997 against the Arizona Cardinals. The game was also the second-most sacks on Giants quarterback Eli Manning by the Cowboys’ defense since the 8.0 taken against him by the unit in 2008. The Cowboys’ defense limited the Giants to 35 rushing yards, putting a stop to their new offensive weapon: RB Saquon Barkley.
Notable impactful players in last night’s victory against the Giants on both sides of the football:
Tavon Austin – The versatile receiver caught two passes for a team high 79 yards and a touchdown, along with a rush for 15 yards. Austin caught his longest pass reception for a touchdown on Dak Prescott’s 64-yard pass on the third play of the game during the opening drive. He also had the highest receiving yards since the game against the Buccs where he racked up 82 yards while with the Rams in 2016.
Dak Prescott – Giants’ safety Landon Collins had a dig at Prescott before the game that only fueled the fire and determination in the Cowboys’ QB. He shut him up on three plays and 1:34 on the clock.
In the press conference following the game Prescott stated, “ I said that I accepted the challenge but it was not just me accepting the challenge but the entire team. “ When you mess with one Dallas Cowboy, you mess with the entirety of the team. Prescott finished the game 16 of 25 for 160 yards, one touchdown, and zero interceptions. Dak broke a tie with Eddie LeBaron (45) at seventh place for the franchise’s all-time passing touchdowns list with 46. He rushed for a career high 45 yards, and he became the fifth QB in Cowboys’ history to reach 700 career-rushing yards with 703. He is now the seventh quarterback in team history to reach 1,000 career pass attempts with 1,003. What did you say again Collins?
Demarcus Lawrence – The tank played in his 50th career game and had a sack on Manning to mark a back-to-back quarterback take-down, after his sack on Cam Newton against the Panthers in last week’s game in Carolina. He is on a roll.
Antwaun Woods – Woods has been an impactful player since he stepped on the field at OTA’s. He went from being fourth in the depth chart to becoming a starting nose tackle for the Dallas Cowboys. He recorded his first career sack on Manning in the second quarter. He has incredible instincts at the line of scrimmage and penetration in the defensive line. He is one to watch.
Taco Charlton – Charlton had an impressive game with a sack on Manning and three tackles. In last week’s game against Carolina, he recorded a pass defend. He has been a strong force in the Cowboys’ defensive line creating pressure on the edge.
Kavon Frazier – Frazier made an impact in the last line of defense in the backfield with his first career sack on Manning. The secondary played a big part in the win against the Giants reacting to zone coverages and beating receivers on man-to-man. With Xavier Woods’ injury, Frazier is receiving more playing time and is certainly making a strong debut.
