FRISCO, Texas – Taco Charlton is making moves on the football field. In Sunday’s game against the Giants he recorded his first sack of the 2018 regular season against Eli Manning, and finished with six tackles (three combined, three total). In the season opener against Carolina, Charlton had a pass defend, three combined tackles, one total, and one assist. His confidence and energy on and off the field is being noticed by and impacting his defensive teammates. Charlton coined a new term for the Dallas’ defense this season, “the Hotboyz!” There is even a secret handshake that Taco and Jaylon Smith displayed today after practice.
DE Tyrone Crawford has worked closely with Taco and described his growth as a player“ I cannot speak enough good words about Taco. He is mature and definitely doing his thing on the field. That is a testament of his work in the off-season… He came back from working out in L.A. and he looked like a monster. He looked like he was ready to go. He was extremely focused. The hard part was just getting the mindset but I cannot take credit for anything Taco has done. He has done it all himself…. He took what everyone was saying and turned it into energy. I am happy for my little brother. “
Charlton stated after practice “ we compete so much and bring the best out of one another. We talk trash but we have fun…we want each other to succeed. We know how good each other can be so that’s why we push each other so hard. We are never satisfied because we know how good we can be and have seen it. “
Charlton has been worth his first round selection in the 2017 Draft. He has great instincts and reaction off the snap of the ball as a rusher. He is a rare combination of size and athleticism. Charlton has brought added dimension to the Cowboys’ pass rush. No. 97 is one to watch this season coming off the edge and he will be a threat to QB Russell Wilson and the Seahawks’ offense on Sunday.
