D-Law Leading Cowboys’ Defense

FRISCO, Texas – The last two years, defensive end Demarcus Lawrence has been a name synonymous with the success of the Dallas Cowboys’ defense. Lawrence was drafted out of Boise State in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Cowboys. He had a breakout year last season with 14.5 sacks, 35 total tackles, and 23 assists. He led the league in sacks at No.3 with 14.5 behind Calais Campbell (14.5) and Chandler Jones (17.0). This season, he is currently leading the NFL in sacks with 5.5. He is a powerhouse around the edge and has an innate ability to reach the quarterback. He has earned his nickname “the tank!”

With veteran SLB Sean Lee out with a hamstrung injury last week against the Lions, Lawrence led the defense with 3.0 sacks on Matt Stafford. He stepped up and made a difference on third downs for his team to keep the Cowboys’ offense on the field.

In the press conference, Jason Garrett relayed the story of one of the defining moments in Lawrence’s career “ He made one of the greatest sequence of plays I have ever been around in my life when we played that playoff game against Detroit a few years ago. He picked up the fumble at the end of the ball game and lost it. A few plays later, he just made this signature play where he destroyed the guy trying to block him and knocked the quarterback and the ball out and recovered it…For me that was big in his career to respond the right way and we knew good things were to come. “

They certainly have from the DE and No.90 poses a threat to offenses around the league. He is on the hunt every week and Dallas’ defense needs him to show up in a big way to minimize Deshaun Watson’s passing efficiency in the pocket on Sunday against the Texans at NRG Stadium.
