Cincinnati Beats SMU In OT

DALLAS, Texas — SMU receiver Reggie Roberson Jr. had career highs of 147 receiving yards and 2 TDs as the Mustangs out gained Cincinnati 265-213 in the second half but it wasn’t enough as they lost to the Bearcats in overtime 26-20.

“Against a good football team you’ve got to close that door when you have the opportunity to close it. You’ve got to give them credit, Cincinnati did a good job on the last drive of getting down there in field goal range,” said SMU Head Football Coach Sonny Dykes.

This was SMU’s second overtime game this season.

The SMU defense had three fourth down stops (last with 1:53 left in the fourth quarter) & three turnovers

  • Interceptions by Jordan Wyatt (11th of career, T-8th SMU) & Elijah McQueen
  • Fumble recovery by Jake Hall
  • SMU has three takeaways in four of the past five game

Ben Hicks set the SMU career record for total offense

  • 22-43 for 328 yards with 2 TDs
  • Season-high passing yards (was 291 at Tulane 10/20)
  • Ninth career 300-yard game, ties the SMU record (Garrett Gilbert)​
