DALLAS, Texas — The prestigious Doak Walker Award was created in 1989 to recognize the nation’s premier running back for his accomplishments on the field, achievement in the classroom and citizenship in the community.
It is the only major collegiate football award that requires all candidates to be in good academic standing and on schedule to graduate within one year of other students of the same classification.
The 2018 recipient was Jonathan Taylor of The University of Wisconsin.
Taylor rushed for 4,171 yards in just 27 games, ranking No. 5 all-time at Wisconsin … leads all active FBS players in rushing at 154.5 yards per game … average of 6.88 yards per carry ranks No. 2 in school history … has rushed for at least 100 yards in 22 of 27 career games … owns 12 games of 150-plus yards and 8 games of 200-plus … his 8 career 200-yard games trail only Ron Dayne (14) for most in school history.
