FRISCO, Texas – The Dallas Cowboys used the franchise tag on elite pass rusher, DeMarcus Lawrence. In 2018 after the club failed to reach a long-term agreement with their veteran defensive end. Negotiating a deal with D-Law is a necessity for the team before he becomes a free agent in 2019. The Cowboys have to finalize a long-term extension before the league’s summer deadline of July 16th, or they will be forced to let him walk.
Lawrence made his second-consecutive Pro Bowl in 2018, leading the team with a recorded 10.5 sacks. He amassed 39 quarterback pressures and 12 tackles for a loss in 2018. He had a career-high in tackles with 64, and had his first career interception. He concluded the season ranked second in run stop percentage among 4-3 defensive ends, limiting opponents to a loss on 12.3% of run snaps, according to Pro Football Focus. Dallas allowed the fewest games with opponents scoring 30-or-more points in 2018, in large part due to the raw ability of Lawrence off the snap of the ball.
D-Law is a guy that opposing offenses have to plan around. He disrupts the pass with his innate skill of beating offensive tackles at the line of scrimmage, limiting quarterbacks in the pocket.
He is a player that motivates the defense surrounding him on and off the field. Lawrence shows 100% focus and that is what makes him effective on the gridiron. He evokes fear with a constant game face on, even in the locker-room, and consistently makes his job description clear, “feasting on quarterbacks.” With his burst and body control; he is one of the best in the league. DeMarcus is an instant impact player and keeping him on the roster in 2019 is a top priority for the Dallas Cowboys. The hotboyz look up to their stouthearted leader, the “Tank.”
