DALLAS, Texas – Former beloved tight end, Jason Witten, will return to the Dallas Cowboys for the 2019 NFL season. The infamous ‘Y-option’ route runner is set to make roughly $5 million to come out of retirement, per Ian Rapoport. Witten spent the last year in the booth as a MNF broadcaster for ESPN, but will now return to the gridiron wearing the iconic Star.
Witten issued a statement on his return, “The fire inside of me to compete and play this game is just burning too strong. This team has a great group of young rising stars, and I want to help them make a run at a championship. This was completely my decision, and I am very comfortable with it. I’m looking forward to getting back in the dirt. “
Witten was selected by the Cowboys in the third round of the 2003 NFL Draft out of the University of Tennessee. He played 15 seasons for America’s Team before retiring in 2018 to pursue a broadcasting career. During his tenure with Dallas in 239 games, he amassed 1,152 receptions for 12, 448 yards, a 10.8 average after the catch, and 68 touchdowns. Witten played in 14 straight 16-game seasons and only missed one game in his rookie year in 2003.
His dedication and commitment to the Cowboys are held in reverence by the franchise, in murals around its facilities, and in the hearts of the people in the city it resides. Welcome back No.82!!!!!
