FRISCO, Texas – After the disheartening news of Randy Gregory’s suspension, the Dallas Cowboys’ defensive line faced another indiscretion with the loss of David Irving. The club announced Friday that Irving was suspended indefinitely for violating the NFL’s Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse.
Irving was to become a free agent in 2019. It is no secret that the 25-year-old has had several setbacks during his Pro career, and as a result, the franchise was not planning on re-signing him. He had three suspensions over the course of his four-year career in the league with Dallas. He missed the first four games in back-to-back seasons in 2017 and 2018. During his tenure he accumulated 56 combined tackles, 36 solo tackles, 12.5 sacks, and 12 pass defends in 37 games.
Irving has an innate raw ability and always performed well when he was actually on the field but that was rarely the case for the talented pass rusher; he could not stay out of trouble long enough to make significant strides on the gridiron to help his team. He faces a tough and long road ahead. Wishing Irving the best of luck in his future endeavors!
