FRISCO, Texas – Daniel Ross was set to become an exclusive rights free agent but the Dallas Cowboys made a move to lock up the 25-year-old for another season. The team signed Ross to a one-year deal.
No.93 will enter his third year with the franchise. In 2018, Ross accumulated 14 combined tackles, six solo tackles, and a sack in 13 games. He had great penetration in the interior of the Cowboys’ 4-3 defensive front throughout the season and helped boost the team’s pass rush with quarterback pressures.
Ross played at Northeast Mississippi and was signed by the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent after the 2017 NFL Draft. Prior to the NFL, from 2014-2016, the defensive tackle spent time in the Canadian Football League playing for the Edmonton Eskimos and the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He was released by the Texans in September of 2017, and moved to the Detroit Lions’ and Kansas City Chiefs’ practice squads in 2017 before arriving in Dallas. In November of 2017, the Cowboys’ signed Ross off the Chiefs’ practice squad, filling a roster spot created by Ezekiel Elliott’s suspension.
His lively spirit and smile are contagious throughout the team and his energetic dance moves always provide a laugh during practices at the Star. Ross has been through the difficult stages and business process of the league moving from one practice squad to the next, but his unwavering faith in God and support of his wife have gotten him through. He will now put on a uniform with the iconic Star for his third year.
I spoke with Ross on the signing, “ I just want to say thanks to the MAN UP STAIRS for every trial and tribulation that me and my family have gone through up to this point in my life. And I want to thank the Dallas Cowboys for giving me another opportunity to come back and play for this team/organization.”
Congratulations and best of luck in the upcoming 2019 season!
