FRISCO, Texas – On Wednesday the Dallas Cowboys negotiated a three-year, $5.4 million deal with fullback Jamize Olawale. This will be the 29-year-old’s eighth season in the league and second full season in Dallas. He spent six years with the Oakland Raiders (2012-2017), prior to signing with the Cowboys in 2018.
He played college football at the University of North Texas and was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Cowboys in 2012. The team switched him from wide receiver to fullback during rookie mini-camp. Following preseason, Olawale was waived and placed on the team’s practice squad. In December, the Raiders were clamored with injuries to their running back core and they picked up Jamize from the Cowboys’ practice squad.
Over the next several years in Oakland, the dynamic player also played a significant role on the team’s special teams unit, leading the team in special teams tackles in 2014(14) and 2015(10). The Raiders traded Olawale to the Cowboys in March of 2018: a sixth-round pick to Dallas for a fifth-round pick. Throughout his career in the league, he has accumulated 55 rushing attempts, 206 rushing yards, 41 receptions, 438 receiving yards, and seven total touchdowns in 93 total games played.
No.49 has another shot with America’s Team and can double as a threat on special teams and in the running game: winning the physical battle and clearing the way, opening up running lanes for the team’s star rusher- Ezekiel Elliott. His addition into the Cowboys’ offensive scheme will help throw off opposing defenses and add versatility to the play calls.
