Rangers Get The 9-4 Win Over Astros

ARLINGTON, Texas — The 2019 Silver Boot Series presented by the Texas Lottery continued at Globe Life Park last night for game two of this three game series against the Houston Astros. The Texas Rangers got their revenge after the game one loss and walked away with a 9-4 victory in Arlington.

It was all Rangers early in this ballgame. Bats were scorching hot in the first inning as the Rangers wasted no time in exacting revenge. Danny Santana is who helped the club get on the board first as he singled to centerfield and Shin-Soo Choo came home to put them on the board. Afterwards Cabrera decided to join in on the fun by hitting a single of his own to leftfield which helped bring in Elvis Andrus and Santana. Nomar Mazara advanced to second from the hit by Cabrera. Forsythe then connects on a single that brings in Mazara and then Cabrera gets an easy trip home for the Rangers 5th run scored after advancing, as an error is committed by the shortstop Carlos Correa on the Delino DeShields hit, also advancing Kiner-Falefa to second.

This early spark to start the game between the two teams was just the beginning as the Rangers would go on to score four more runs off of a solo homerun by Joey Gallo in the third, an RBi single from Cabrera and two run RBI off of a triple from DeShields in the fifth kicked the run total up to nine for Texas. Houston managed to get themselves on the board in the 5th inning with a two run homerun by Max Stassi and a two run homerun by George Springer in the seventh.

Gallo and Cabrera were the leaders for the Rangers in the game as they led the way offensively, both scoring two runs and going 2-for-4 at the plate and one strikeout. Gallo managed to be the only homerun hit for the club tonight, as well as an RBI. Cabrera came away with three RBI’s. Also another impressive performance from Santana as he went 3-for-5 at the plate with an RBI and run scored.

With the win, the Rangers give the Astros (13-7) their second loss in their last three games after the club had just previously went on a 10-game win streak to propel themselves back atop the American League West. Texas currently sits at third in the AL West and sixth in the American League with an 11-8 record. In the Chris Woodward era, they’ve managed to go toe-to-toe with the best in the AL West. Last season the Rangers had an abysmal 14-24 record and -51 run differential against the Astros.

“I was really proud of our guys for sticking with their game plan and making them work,” Woodward said. “The quality of at-bats was just great. It sets a tone for the whole game. To get to a guy like that is pretty remarkable.”

RHP Gerrit Cole for the Astros came into the game with a 1-2 record and 3.24 ERA, compared to the Rangers’ RHP Adrian Sampson who came in 0-1 with a 5.93 ERA, it looked as if McHugh was easily poised for a better day at the ballpark, but that was not the case. Although Miller had the better day, Springer still took advantage for the Astros as he finished 2-for-5 on the day with a homerun and two RBI’s.

Next Matchup: The Rangers will have RHP Shelby Miller (0-1, 9.00 ERA) starting on the mound today against the Astros and RHP Collin McHugh (3-1, 1.96 ERA) to finish out the final game of this three game series.
