FRISCO, Texas – The Dallas Cowboys waived linebacker Justin Phillips and signed fullback Ryan Yurachek on Wednesday.
The team is making changes prior to the start of Training Camp in late July. Phillips was acquired by the Cowboys in April as an undrafted free agent in the team’s scramble following the 2019 NFL Draft. It would have been difficult for Phillips to land a spot on Dallas’ final 53-man roster with the strength of their linebacker core behind Sean Lee, Jaylon Smith, and Leighton Vander Esch.
To fill his place, the Cowboys signed Yurachek, who spent the 2018 season with the Oakland Raiders. He spent the entire season on the Raiders practice squad and prior to Oakland, he was signed as an undrafted free agent by the New Orleans Saints in the spring. The Saints cut him before Training Camp began and the Raiders gave the former Bison tight end an opportunity. He underwent surgery on his knee and was waived by the Raiders with an injury classification in May of 2019.
With Training Camp over a month away, the Cowboys have no doubts that the fullback will be ready to go when practices begin in Oxnard.
He concluded his four-year career at Marshall with 143 receptions, 1,354 receiving yards, and 26 receiving touchdowns in 51 game starts. He was named the team’s offensive captain and first team All-Conference USA as a tight end his senior year. He ended his MU career third in receptions among TE’s in school history.
