ARLINGTON, TX – Coming off a tough loss in Sin City, the Dallas Wings (2-6) return home to square off with the league’s best Connecticut Sun (9-2).
Connecticut has been a thorn in Dallas’ side for quite some time now. After dropping three straight games against the Sun last season, the Wings should be hungry to change the narrative and not make it six straight losses tonight.
To paint a better picture, it’s been nearly two years since Dallas was in the win column against them.
The Wings will need another solid performance from rookie Arike Ogunbowale who recently posted a career-high 25 points against Las Vegas. She’s been the boost of energy off the bench for Dallas for the majority of the season.
Connecticut has its own spark plug in Jonquel Jones who is the league’s fourth leading scorer. She’s currently leading the Sun in points (16.7), minutes (30.1), and rebounds (11.5). Jones has been the heartbeat of this red-hot team especially after the trade of Chiney Ogwumike to the LA Sparks.
Although Connecticut’s seven-game win streak was snapped by a 93-75 loss handed by the Chicago Sky, they are still a force to not be taken lightly. Jones earned her third double-double in four games against the Sky and doesn’t look to slow down her dominance any time soon.
Dallas has their work cut out for them for tonight’s matchup and will have to shoot better in general after putting up a mere 28.6 percent overall and 6-31 from beyond against the Aces.
KEYS TO A DALLAS VICTORY
For starters, the Wings must apply pressure from deep since the Sun lead the WNBA in 3-point percentage (36.1).
Dallas will also need Kayla Thornton to handle business – like she normally does – in all four frames. She’s having one of her best seasons of her career and will need to stay even hotter against the Sun.
Finally, limiting Jones will obviously be beneficial. She is a fierce threat from inside and will snatch every rebound if you let her. Contain, contain, and contain some more.
Tip-off is set for 7:00pm at the College Park Center.
