FC Dallas vs D.C. United: A Match That Caused More Than Fireworks

FRISCO, TX – A special 4th of July celebration began a match like no other between FC Dallas and D.C United. With a sold out Toyota Stadium, the 1st half kicked off with FC Dallas mid-fielder Matt Bressan. Barely completing the first 5 minutes of the match Forward, Santiago Mosquera took full possession of the ball after D.C’s free kick. Mosquera right footed his shot from the centre of the box and did not hesitate to mark the first goal by taking advantage of D.C’s goalie, Hamid kicking the ball out of bounds.

This game marked a high point as Defender, Matt Hedges was yellow carded ending in D.C United, midfielder Lucas Rodriguez winning a free kick in the attacking half. A second infraction was caught when Forward, Wayne Rooney caught Barrios with a foot stop to his ankle. Causing a delay in the match, fans anticipated as the Video Review would determine if the red card would be changed to yellow. Rooney was issued a yellow card, before quickly turning into another foot to the ankle stop by Griffin Yow to FC’s Ryan Hollingshead causing another foul and free-kick. With only 5 minutes to spare of the 1st half Pomykal ends with a free kick.

The match is 1 to 0, and with only 22 minutes left and FC Dallas in the lead; Badji left footed close to the front range scoring another goal. Meanwhile, Acosta was issued a red card in what was a hard fall by Pomykal in which Acosta trampled over the midfielder.

By the end of the game Head Coach Luchi Gonzalez had his sentiments about the aftermath of the fouls; “I felt we pushed the game, D.C was unfortunate with the red card at the end but, it’s not our problem. We just have to keep playing and pushing the game. Doesn’t matter the circumstance. I think we closed the game in a positive way.”

By minute 80, FC Dallas takes full control of the ball. After fouls, red cards and yellow cards the energy of the stadium picks up as the trio Mosquera, Reynolds assist Bandji to what would’ve been the third goal for FC. Ending the game with a FC victory of 2 – 0 and naming Mosquero the Man of the Match, the Forward had his thoughts about the challenges of this game.

Mosequero, “It’s a team that produces good things, we are there fighting. We are waiting to fight… more than we did last season“.

FC Dallas will face off Sunday against Club Tijuana.
