FRISCO, Texas – Just days before the start of Training Camp, the Dallas Cowboys are releasing wide receiver Allen Hurns. Hurns suffered a gruesome ankle injury in the Wild Card round of playoffs against the Seattle Seahawks at the conclusion of the 2018 season and he spent the off-season in recovery getting back up to speed.
In dealing with his contract, Dallas reportedly wanted the 27-year-old to take a pay cut. He declined and both parties failed to reach an agreement. The one-year Dallas Cowboy will now hit the open market. His cut will open up $5 million in cap space and moves the franchise’s space under the cap to $24 million.
The wideout tallied 20 receptions for 295 yards, two touchdowns, and an average of 14.8 yards after the catch in all 16 regular season games in 2018. The receiver depth chart is crowded with the new additional wideouts acquired during the off-season, and instead of keeping him in the final year of his two-year contract, the team decided to part ways with Hurns to free up space.
