DALLAS, Texas — Safety Rodney Clemons has been representing SMU Football all summer by traveling to Newport, Rhode Island for AAC Media Days and now being named to the Athlon Sports Preseason watch list. This season, Clemons is mostly excited to play with his teammates for the last time.
“We are ready for people to see what we prepared for all spring, summer, this fall camp and hopefully win some championships,” stated Clemons.
Just a little over a week into fall camp, Clemons grades the progress as an A, “Usually around this time we start to lose some of that juice, but we have kept it up bringing the same energy everyday.”
During his junior season, Clemons started all 12 games and registered 72 tackles. He tells us every morning that once his feet hit the floor he is ready to go. He also reminds us about his injury freshmen year and how he was out for a year. Clemons says that year is what keeps him grinding and excited to play this season.
Overall, Clemons wants to prove they are great players and are good at both coverage and tackling. He believes the defensive line doesn’t have much to improve on, but need to have focus on different areas. He said getting better at these different areas will make them better as a team.
