FRISCO, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys finalized another contract and no it is not Ezekiel Elliott, Dak Prescott, or Amari Cooper.
The Dallas Cowboys and right tackle La’el Collins agreed on a five-year contract extension. Collins is locked in under contract with Dallas through the 2024 season. His deal is similar in nature to Jaylon Smith’s- whom the team secured with a pay raise sooner than later. Collins joins four-of-the-five talented offensive lineman paid through at least 2023 alongside Tyron Smith, Travis Frederick, and Zack Martin.
Another “piece of the pie” went to the 26-year-old who played a big role in an offensive line that paved the way for Dallas to rush for 122.7 yards-per-game (10th) with 61 rushes of 10-plus yards (seventh) in 2018. Collins helped anchor a line that provided Dak Prescott with an average of 2.86 seconds to release the ball, sixth best in the league last season.
The Cowboys signed Collins, a former LSU star, to a three-year, $1.5 million deal as an undrafted free agent in 2015. After two years, Dallas increased his pay, signing him to a new two-year, $15.4 million extension in 2017. His contract was set to expire in 2019, but the Cowboys jumped the gun on the young right tackle.
