Kellen Moore, “One Of These Geniuses” In New Coaching Role

FRISCO, Texas – He may have been an unknown coming into the game, but after the Cowboys’ 35-17 win over the Giants on Sunday, the name swirling around is offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. The former Dallas quarterback had his regular season debut as the new play-caller on offense.

Moore diversified the offense with pre-snap motion, misdirection, and play action. He spread out the offense and got everyone involved, forcing New York to become one-dimensional. The Cowboys used play action on 48% of Dak Prescott’s passes and motion on 73% of total plays (44 of 60).

I think Prescott perfectly summed up Moore’s impact following the victory, “ I don’t know if we ran one play tonight that has not been in our offense for some time. I give credit to Kellen for dialing them up at the right time and knowing what the defense was going to give us.”

In 2016, Dak battled with Kellen Moore and Jameill Showers for the backup role behind Tony Romo. He evidently won the job over and even landed Romo’s place as the starter when he led the team to 13-3 that season, and the rest is history.

Prescott added, “It was demoralizing to watch him make those throws, read the defenses and see the defenses the way he did. It was tough, and I didn’t like it. But I also admire that part of him, and wanted to be that someday. The moment he transitioned into the coaching role, he’s one of these geniuses. “

The Cowboys’ offense looked more aggressive than it has in over 10 years, a result of the new sheriff in town.
