DALLAS, Texas — The SMU Mustangs are coming off their first loss of the season, as they host East Carolina this Saturday and try to bounce back. It was an emotional loss last week, falling to Memphis 54-48.
“We hadn’t really talked about being undefeated. I think we’ve got a fairly mature team and they understand in this league you have to play well or you’re going to lose, and it doesn’t matter which two teams are playing. You can get a little bit of a hangover effect for sure, and it lingers, and you’ve got to be able to put it behind you and move on,” SMU coach Sonny Dykes said.
SMU (8-1, 4-1) has now landed at No. 23 in both major polls for this week. The Mustangs should be able to get back in the win column today as they are undefeated at home this season and the Pirates are just 3-6 overall. East Carolina is also still searching for its first conference win of the season.
Kickoff is set for 11am at Gerald J. Ford Stadium.
