DALLAS, Texas — SMU Men’s basketball finished 2019 strong with an 85-76 win over Georgia State. The Mustangs moved to 9-2 on the season.
SMU took an early lead, before Georgia State rallied back towards the end of the first half to take their only lead of the game The Mustangs quickly regained the lead and took a 3 point lead into halftime.
SMU controlled the second half. Georgia State’s full court press set up a Feron Hunt dunk that he and his teammates said could be a sports center top 10 play.
Offensively, SMU had 4 players score at least 15 points. Kendrick Davis and Feron Hunt both scored 18 points. Tyson Jolly contributed 17 points. Isiaha Mike had a double double with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
SMU Head Coach, Tim Jankovich said he was most proud of his teams defensive toughness. Jankovich said the Mustangs held Georgia State under 40% field goal percentage and rebounded well.
SMU opens conference play Jan. 1 against University of South Florida.
