Breakdown of Cowboys vs. Redskins

OnOff

FRISCO, Texas — The 7-8 Dallas Cowboys have one last chance to make a playoff run with a win against the Redskins on Sunday paired with an Eagles’ loss to the Giants. If both events happen, the Cowboys will be atop the NFC East headed into playoffs. The team no longer solely controls their destiny.

“ At the beginning of the season, no one could have foreseen this,” Zack Martin remarked in the locker room.

Dallas had high expectations coming out of OTA’s and Training Camp with the team’s depth and talent-filled roster. Throughout the regular season following the first three wins in the first three weeks, the team has underperformed. The inconsistent team now sits at 7-8 with only one win against a team with a winning record in 2019.

Dak Prescott spoke to the media on the team’s standing, “ You are for sure disappointed, you’re frustrated. Even losing the games we have lost in the year, we have always been able to say ‘ we are still in control and we control our destiny.’ That’s gone now. It’s obviously frustrating, but you can’t come in and have a hangover; you can’t feel sorry for yourself.”

The Cowboys had a shot to ensure their lead in the division heading into playoffs with a win against the Eagles in week 16, but the team once again did not execute on the field. Philadelphia wanted the win more and the Cowboys have to live in the disaster of their own making. Against Philly, Dallas did not control the line of scrimmage on either side of the ball, they could not elongate drives, they could not get into the end zone, there were six dropped passes, several missed tackles, and several of Dak’s passes did not hit the mark. As luck would have it, the Cowboys have yet another shot at redemption to turn the season around.

Dak Prescott did not practice on Wednesday and Thursday (right shoulder) following the same routine as last week, but he did participate in walk-throughs this week as opposed to missing those last week in prep for the Eagles. He will play Sunday against Washington as said by Jerry Jones on Friday per 105.3 the Fan, “ I think without a question he gives us the best chance to win.”

Left tackle, Tyron Smith (back) missed this week of practice along with Dak and Cam Fleming took his place in the lineup with the first-team. Xavier Su’a-Filo was placed on injured reserve following surgery to repair a broken bone in his lower leg, and Joe Looney filled in for him at practice with the first-team at left guard. Looney finished out the game vs. the Eagles at left guard when Su’a-Filo exited with injury.
