DALLAS, TEXAS — SMU Men’s Basketball to host East Carolina University on Wednesday night in Moody Coliseum.
The Mustangs talent was hard to predict in the off season, because they have a young roster, a lot of new guys and no seniors. So far the Mustangs have been impressive and exceeded expectations in their 2019-2020 season. They’re currently 13-4 overall and 3-2 in American Athletic Conference play. Tim Jankovich and his squad are coming off a win over Temple and are undefeated in AAC play at home.
Tyson Jolly will be the player to watch, coming off a career high in the win over Temple. He broke out of rough patch on offense to score 25 points, 22 of those coming in an unbelievable second half performance, including a windmill dunk on a fast break. Jolly also contributed 14 rebounds for a double-double. The outstanding performance last Saturday earned Jolly a spot on the American Weekly Honor Roll for this week and a lot of momentum heading into the game with East Carolina.
ECU and SMU are no strangers to each other. Both from the AAC, the teams played their first game of the season at ECU on Jan. 11, in a game that went down to the wire and ended with a 3-point win for the Pirates. Coach Jankovich was disappointed with the Mustangs second half execution on the road, and expects his guys to be excited for the rematch.
ECU sits under .500 on the year and 1 game under .500 in AAC play. The Pirates come into tonight’s game off a loss at Cincinnati.
After the Mustangs beat Temple, Tyson Jolly and Kendric Davis said they “can’t wait” for this game, and they’ll have the home court advantage this time. The game will be televised on ESPN3. Tip off will be at at 7 pm.
