ARLINGTON, TEXAS — Week 1 of the XFL season is in the books. The Dallas Renegades hosted the St. Louis BattleHawks for the final of 4 games of the weekend.
It was an impressive defensive performance by the BattleHawks as they were able to keep Dallas out of the end zone, getting the 15-9 road victory. “I’ve said it and lived it my whole life as a head coach: too many field goals get you beat,” Dallas’ head coach Bob Stoops said. “You’ve got to put the ball in the endzone and we didn’t do that.”
Another area of concern for the Renegades were 3rd down conversions, where they went 1 for 10. Quarterback Philip Nelson completed 33 of his 42 passes for 209 yards, with catches from 5 different receivers. The Renegades only rushed for 58 yards, compared to St. Louis’ 198.
Despite the loss, the Renegades had a great fan showing, as the attendance was 17,026 in the old Texas Rangers’ baseball stadium. Dallas has 4 more home games this season at Globe Life Park in Arlington. Their game next week is in LA against the Wildcats on Sunday at 2pm.
