FRISCO, TEXAS — Amari Cooper and the Dallas Cowboys agreed on a five-year, $100 million deal on Monday per Adam Schefter. Cooper made it clear that he wanted to stay in Dallas following the 2019 season and the club’s number one wideout got his wish. He is locked in for the next five years.
The Cowboys gave up a number one draft pick to the Raiders for Cooper midway through the 2018 season, and it seemed likely that a long-term deal would come to fruition just 18 months later.
Cooper now becomes the second-highest paid receiver in the league, behind Julio Jones. In last year’s full season with Dallas, Cooper amassed career-highs in receiving yards (1,189) and touchdowns (eight). Throughout his NFL career, he has four 1,000-yard seasons and received a Pro Bowl nod in each of those four seasons.
Cooper’s former wide receiver’s coach, Sanjay Lal, described to me earlier in the season how being in Dallas shaped the fluid route runner.
“ When he came here, he had a renewed energy, a resurgence of sorts. I think he just fell in love with the Cowboys. To this day he says ‘ I just love being here. ‘ It sparked a fire in him.”
