FRISCO, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys have placed the exclusive rights franchise tag on Dak Prescott according to multiple sources. The tag prevents any other team from signing him and will act as a placeholder as both sides work towards a long-term deal for the quarterback.
Dallas has until July 15th at 3PM to sign Prescott to a long-term contract or he will play the entire season on the tag. This is the first time the club has ever used the tag on a QB.
In 2019, Prescott threw for a career-high 4,902 yards (2nd in NFL) and 30 touchdowns. He drastically improved last year in Kellen Moore’s system. Moore played into Dak’s strengths by incorporating more RPO’s and play-action. Dak became more comfortable in the pocket and had a quicker release time. He had more accuracy throwing deep passes and finding soft spots in zone coverages.
An odd turnout of events following the 2019 season when Dak Prescott and Amari Cooper were labeled “top priorites” by the front office. Now that Dak is tagged, Dallas will work to lock up their No.1 receiver, Amari Cooper, but the clock is ticking.
