FRISCO, TEXAS — The Dallas Cowboys have agreed to basic terms on a deal for defensive tackle Dontari Poe on Wednesday per Ian Rapoport. Both sides are now finalizing a deal that will land the run defender in Dallas.
The Cowboys lost three-technique Maliek Collins but gained Gerald McCoy and now Dontari Poe to sure up the interior of the club’s defensive line. The two will be reunited after spending last season together in Carolina. Dallas’ new defensive coordinator Mike Nolan likes bigger bodied d-lineman than his predecessor Rod Marinelli, which will accommodate Poe. He is a 6’3, 346 pound veteran that eats up space in the middle of the line.
The former first round draft pick spent the majority of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs (2012-2016), before time spent with the Atlanta Falcons (2017), and the Carolina Panthers (2018-2019). In 121 games played, he amassed 278 combined tackles, 20.5 sacks, and 14 passes defended.
