FRISCO, TEXAS — The Dallas Cowboys agreed to a one-year deal with veteran cornerback Daryl Worley according to multiple reports.
With the departure of Byron Jones to the Dolphins in free agency and many corner contracts expiring following the 2020 NFL season, Dallas began adding to the corps. with two high-value selections in the Draft: Trevon Diggs and Reggie Robinson II, and in free agency with Maurice Canady and Saivion Smith.
The Carolina Panthers selected Worley in the third round of the 2016 Draft. He played for the Panthers for two seasons (2016-2017) and signed with the Raiders in 2018, where he played the last two seasons. Throughout his four-year pro career, Worley accumulated 243 combined tackles, 2.0 sacks, 34 passes defended, and five interceptions.
The 25-year-old is another confirmation that the Cowboys are placing a bigger emphasis on “ball hawk” corners to play with length in press coverage.
Following the draft, Mike McCarthy noted, “ we are putting such an emphasis on turnover ratio- that will be a big part of our daily focus as a football team.”
The Cowboys have struggled to create turnovers in recent years and the new coaching staff is making it a priority this year, acquiring long corners that compete and get the football. Diggs, Robinson, and Worley are 6’1 defenders with physicality in the backfield.
Worley will compete for a coveted position on the Cowboys roster.
