WNBA Hopeful For Season

ARLINGTON, TEXAS — Although the sports world is currently at a halt with the COVID-19 pandemic, the WNBA is still doing as much as possible to prepare for its hopeful season. Just last month the draft was held virtually, where the Dallas Wings had 4 picks.

The next step for teams is cutting its rosters down to 12 players by May 26, in order to begin getting paid on June 1. The league and the players’ union are still figuring out the details of how often players will be paid and how much, which relies heavily on when the start date of the season will be. Most teams have their rosters down to 15, with only a few already at 12. This cut will be more difficult than any other year since teams did not get to see players in action during training camp like they usually would.

Last week WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert said the league is working through about a half-dozen scenarios on how to play this summer, but no decisions have been made yet.
