FRISCO, TEXAS — A glimpse of light was shed on Friday for MLS teams, this including FC Dallas.
During the pandemic, several changes were put into place which affected the Dallas soccer team and its players.
Players such as Ricardo Pepi, who had not completed a full year since his debut in June 2019, and was experiencing momentum when he scored his first MLS goal in stoppage time.
Many players, followed suit in experiencing optimum momentum of harnessing their skills to bring them to the last match before the pandemic…the face off against Montreal Impact.
In that face off, fans and Head Coach Lucci Gonzalez braced themselves for what would look like a strong comeback. Ondrasek scored his second consecutive match , Santos scored his first MLS assist, earning a draw, back to back matches against Montreal.
A change, followed after the strong face off against Montreal, something no one could have ever imagined. The pandemic halted the FC Dallas season, the fans, the players but most importantly the 2020 season which was the silver lining to 2019’s season. It was what fans looked forward to and it was what the “overseas” and homegrown players were needing to make a comeback.
Although, the future is still uncertain, this is known, the Major Soccer league announced the beginning of outdoor team training fields (proper health compliance to be followed).
FC Dallas will come back to a new normal, with fields divided into halves, spaced 10 feet apart. Only one player may be in a zone at a given time and maintain physical distance from his team mates and coach. With a list of regulations from staff protocol to an emergency action plan for COVID-19 related issues, the league will adhere to the guidelines through June 1st. A week away to see if the MLS franchise and country as whole has progressed from the pandemic.
