Retired Cowboys Travis Frederick Selected as PFWA’s 2020 George Halas Award Winner

FRISCO, Texas- The Pro Football Writers of America have begun the announcement process of the 2020 Off-Field Awards beginning with the George Halas Award on Monday.

The Halas Award is given to an “NFL player, coach, or staff member who overcomes the most adversity to succeed. “ This year, the award was given to former Cowboys’ center Travis Frederick. Frederick was sidelined during the 2018 season after being diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome. He worked his way back from losing feeling in the majority of his limbs and not being able to carry his daughter up the stairs, to playing a full season in 2019 resulting in a Pro Bowl nod.

Following the season, Frederick described that throughout the 2019 season he did not feel he played to his highest level or the standard that his teammates deserve and he announced his retirement from football. He is still active in his “Blocking Out Hunger Foundation” that provides meals to underprivileged children. His football days may be over, but Frederick continues to use his platform to make a difference in the community.

He becomes the 52nd Halas Award Winner and the second member in franchise history to receiver the honor, following Roger Staubach (1980).
