DALLAS, TX– The Dallas Mavericks are officially at the Walt Disney Resort–also known as the NBA “bubble”–in Orlando, FL. Upon arrival, the team met with NBA Deputy Commissioner, Mark Tatum, to discuss expectations and protocols of the bubble. Afterwards, the team met with medical staff to undergo testing for COVID-19. Pending negative test results, the Mavericks will hold their first team practice today. Players, coaches, and other team associates will be expected to be tested several times for the duration of the regular season and playoffs.
The NBA has approved 29 messages that can be placed on the back of the jerseys as the season resumes in Orlando. This is just one of many ways the league is showing solidarity and speaking out against racial injustices currently plaguing the United States. The Mavs have decided to put the word “Equality” on the back of their jerseys. Some players like Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis will have “Equality” written in their native language. The Dallas Mavericks tweeted “Equality is a universal language”. In about three weeks, Dallas will face the Houston Rockets on July 31 in their first game since March 11.
