Jerry Jones Says Cowboys Taking Precautionary Measures with Amari Cooper, No Health Concern

FRISCO, TEXAS — During the last week of training camp for the Dallas Cowboys, wide receiver Amari Cooper has spent more time watching from the sideline raising question marks.

Jerry Jones was asked on Tuesday per 105.3 The Fan about Cooper’s health status and Jones put the concerns to rest. He elaborated that the team is taking precautionary measures with Cooper to prevent injury, rather than him being limited because of one.

“We have some of the most sophisticated health measuring systems in place, “ Jones said. “ And, so, some of them are as sophisticated as they can tell you how you’re literally, in layman’s terms, how your muscles are firing, how they’re firing. Or whether or not they’re firing at an inordinate rate. A lot of times when they’re firing at inordinate rates, those are times that you could have some strain. And, so, today, if you’ve got a player that maybe has been tearing their — just been tearing it up and has been performing at an extraordinary level for him or his measureables in the background, you pull him back some because those are times you could be vulnerable to a pull. That’s come into play.”

Up to this point, Cooper had a stellar camp performance so the staff decided to be cautious and take preventative measures to ensure his health for the fast approaching 2020 season. Cooper’s absence from the field has given more reps to Cedrick Wilson, Noah Brown, and Devin Smith, guys that are fighting for a spot on the Cowboys’ depth chart behind Cooper, Michael Gallup, and CeeDee Lamb. With no preseason to draw from and a virtual offseason program, making the most of their opportunities now will be imperative to making the final 53-man roster.
