As The NFL Season Nears, Cowboys 53 Man Roster Announced

FRISCO, TEXAS — In order to cut down to the final 53-man roster, the Dallas Cowboys waived 16 players on Saturday.

The club released offensive tackle Isaac Alarcon, linebacker Francis Bernard, cornerback Deante Burton, defensive end Ron’Dell Carter, cornerback C.J. Goodwin, defensive tackle Justin Hamilton, defensive end Ladarius Hamilton, center Marcus Henry, wide receiver Jon’vea Johnson, wide receiver Tevin Jones, safety Luther Kirk IV, linebacker Justin March-Lillard, fullback Sewo Olonilua, wide receiver Aaron Parker, cornerback Saivion Smith, and cornerback Chris Westry on Saturday.

Two of the names on the list are linebackers that came as a shock with both Sean Lee and Luke Gifford both nursing injuries. That leaves Dallas with three healthy linebackers: Leighton Vander Esch, Jaylon Smith, and Joe Thomas. This will likely mean that the Cowboys are planning to employ more nickel packages in 2020, along with rushing defensive ends from a standup position (3-4 OLB) and three-point stance (4-3 DE).

Here is a complete list of waived players to bring the roster to the required 53 before the 3 p.m. CT deadline.
