FRISCO, TEXAS — The Dallas Cowboys have continued to make changes to their initial 53-man roster.
On Sunday, the Cowboys claimed wide receiver Malik Turner off waivers after the Green Bay Packers released him. In order to make room for Turner on the roster, the club released linebacker Joe Thomas. However, the Cowboys will likely continue to tinker with the roster and it is reported that the team will re-sign several of the cuts like Thomas.
Entering his third year in the league, Turner joins six receivers on the current roster to bring the count to seven: Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, CeeDee Lamb, Cedrick Wilson, Noah Brown, and Ventell Bryant.
In addition on Sunday, the first 15 players who have signed to the Cowboys’ practice squad have been released including defensive back Brandon Carr. Dallas has two spots open to makeup a 16-player squad after Alarcon’s exemption to the practice squad through the NFL’s International Pathway Program.

Carr is a former Cowboys’ defensive back that currently lives in Dallas. He played five years wearing the star from 2012 to 2016. McCarthy likes flexibility from players and Carr can play safety or cornerback to add depth to the last line of defense. Under the new collective bargaining agreement, practice squad rules have changed. Teams can have up to 16 players on the squad as opposed to the previous 10. Two practice squad players per week can be promoted to the active roster and then go back to the practice squad the following week minus having to go through the waivers process.
